Even though there are threats, the government is still trying to grow Papua: KSP - Endiartia

Moeldoko, who is in charge of the Presidential Staff Office (KSP), said that the government will keep developing Papua and protecting the people there from risks from separatist groups.

"Papuans need to know that overall, development is not slowing down," he said, according to a statement released on Thursday.

He said Presidential Instruction No. 9 of 2020 on promoting social development in Papua has been implemented to help the people of Papua become more prosperous.

"So, in general, things are going well in Papua," the head of the KSP said.

He said the government would focus on the three districts of Nduga, Intan Jaya, and Puncak, called "red zones" because rebels are active there. He also said the government would keep protecting those living there.

Moeldoko said, "It is not just the state's job to ensure the people are doing well. It is also the state's job to protect the people, the nation, and the country."

He said that the people's lives are in danger in places called "red zones," where citizens, including women and children, are being killed and hurt by separatist groups.

Even though the military and police are doing more to stop separatist groups in the area, especially in the red zones, the KSP head said that the government will keep developing Papua.

Moeldoko said, "Because of this, I want to warn you that the TNI (Indonesia National Armed Forces) and the police will take firm action, especially in the three districts where separatists' actions have worsened."

He also said that President Joko Widodo has said that the authority will keep trying to speed up development in the area no matter what is happening in Papua.
